    The 19th Century.
    The decadence of the wine-growing market ends up with two diseases appeared along the Century: the oídio, in the year 1852 and the mildio in 1878. In spite of the Canary Islands never suffered from the another world plague the filoxera, the damage produced by those diseases, together with the commercial difficulties, led to the death of this economic sector until the last quarter of the following century.
     
    The 20th Century.
    The wine is mainly produced for a local market. In 1985, it is created the Designation of Origin Tacoronte-Acentejo, in an intention of regulating the wine production and to increase its quality. In few years, some more Denominations of Origin were created, not only in Tenerife but almost in all the islands of the Archipelago, achieving recognition and prizes in different fairs.
